Insider Calls TikTok Homophobic

The Business Insider has called out TikTok for being "homophobic" for the way the TikTok algorithm works.

To quote the Insider directly they said "LGBTQ TikTok users are receiving abuse on the platform. This is due to the platform's algorithm, a Media Matters report said. Insider reports that a trans woman named Chloe Alice posted a tutorial for fellow trans women on how to tuck and the video was pushed to all sorts of people specially homophobic people, the tiktoker woke up with hundreds of comments and duets from "transphobes" mocking her and insulting members of the LGBTQ communities.

Alice blames this on the TikTok algorithm for pushing her content onto the TikTok for you page. Insider then claims TikTok's for you page (fyp) has a lot of these homophobic

trolls. After this Media Matters tried this for themselves by creating a test TikTok account. Then they looked for homophobic videos and pressed the like button on all the homophobic videos they clicked on. Then they restarted the app and were shocked that there TikTok recommended feed was met with more homophobic videos. After that Insider continues to show examples of trans people being harassed. However this is common on all platforms, YouTube and Twitch included. The way the algorithms work on all platforms is if you press on a video titled "I'm Homophobic So What" then press the like button on that video and another video with a similar title YouTube and TikTok assume you like that kind of content so they put that content in your recommended feed so you can keep watching there platform and never leave. Having many homophobic video getting in the recommended is not something TikTok went out of there way to do its just a loop hole in there algorithms. However the Insider thinks otherwise.
